Welcome to my portfolio.

Lotta-Pia Kallio, visual artist.

Born in Rauma, Finland 1969.

An Artisan and Master of Arts in Education, Kallio graduated as an art teacher from the University of Art and Design Helsinki (currently Aalto University) and Craft science from Helsinki University. She works as an artist and visual arts lecturer in Salo, Finland, and has participated in both domestic and international exhibitions since 1996.

Kallio primarily works with textile and video. She often incorporates old objects, reassembling fragments into new narratives and constructed realities. Her works frequently reflect the past; she seeks to grasp the passage of time and to understand surrounding events by rewinding, slowing down, and observing them from altered temporal perspectives. Her works are often surrealistic, inviting viewers to shift their point of view and see familiar elements differently.

In her textile practice, Kallio mainly works with hand embroidery. The slowness of the process allows time for thinking and focus. Stitches connect separate parts into a unified whole. The act of making itself becomes a ritual: used and broken materials transform, changing form and being reborn as other kinds of creatures.

Her video works engage with the idea of Gesamtkunstwerk—a total artwork—while avoiding large‑scale productions. She creates all elements of her videos herself, including props, brushes, clothing, and masks, each of which can also exist independently as an artwork. She usually films alone with a single performer and edits the videos herself, allowing the concept to unfold organically over time and giving space for intuition and development within the process.
